Dr. Reid provides entry-level and research graduate instruction related to cardiopulmonary physical therapy, exercise physiology, skeletal muscle dysfunction, and research design. She has also been an invited speaker and visiting professor providing lectures in North American, Asia and Europe.

Darlene Reid and Frank Chung recently co-authored the book Clinical Management Notes and Case Histories in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy. Darlene has been very involved in the National Physiotherapy Standards and Specialization Committee. Currently she is a committee member on provincial and national boards related to grant review and publication of scholarly work.

- Dr. Reid’s primary research focus is exertion-induced muscle injury of the inspiratory and limb muscles in people with chronic disease. This includes quantitative morphometry of structures imaged at the cellular and macroscopic level in addition to functional measures that range from in vitro muscle stress to clinical measures of torque. Dr. Reid directs the Muscle Biophysics Laboratory, a 1500 square foot wet and dry lab space located within the largest teaching hospital site in Vancouver. Dr. Reid supervises research trainees at the MSc, PhD and PDF level in Rehabilitation Sciences, Human Kinetics and Experimental Medicine. Graduate students can apply for funding to the BC Lung Association Rehabilitation Fellowship in addition to other sources.
